What does a Legal Nurse Consultant do?

Offers advice to attorneys, paralegals and legal experts regarding medically-related issues of the law.

Manages and assist in analyzing medical records; interprets the notes of physicians and nurses; and prepares medical record chronologies, charts, diagrams and timelines.

Assists attorneys in a wide variety of matters including medical malpractice, products liability, worker’s compensation, nursing liability, personal injury, wrongful death, toxic tort, sexual assault, and criminal defense cases

Serves as expert witnesses, testifying at trials, depositions, hearings and arbitrations and preparing expert witness reports for use at trial. reviews new cases for merit; locates and interviews medical experts; serves as a liaison between law firms, medical experts and other parties; formulates medical-legal case theories; identifies deviations from nursing standards of care; researches medical literature; and coordinates independent medical examinations.
How is a RN qualified to function in this role?

The nursing education and clinical expertise uniquely qualifies the RN to analyze complex medical information and render informed opinions to attorneys in medical-legal matters.

As an RN with a minimum of five years experience in any nursing specialty.
